MOVING OFF RED BOX, STORACALL, NICE OR VERINT CALL RECORDING BEFORE SUPPORT RUNS OUT

The call recording system in your comms room has probably run quietly for years. But if your compliance depends on it and its support is ending, that quiet box becomes a real worry. We can move your recording onto our Private 3CX AI Server and keep it running while we do.

End of support

Why so many recording systems are being retired at once

Two things are happening together. Recording vendors are moving customers off their older on-premises software and onto their own cloud platforms. And the UK's old phone network is being switched off, taking ISDN lines (the traditional digital phone lines most businesses used before internet calling) with it. Recording kit wired into ISDN goes with them.

If your business has to record calls for regulatory reasons, a recording system with no support is a risk you'll want to deal with while you still have time to plan.

Is it time?

Signs it's time to plan your move

Your recording vendor has announced end of support for your version

Your recording kit is wired into ISDN or traditional phone lines

The server it runs on no longer gets operating system or security updates

Your vendor is pushing you towards its own cloud platform

You have to record calls for regulatory reasons

Nobody in the business is quite sure how the recording system works any more

Your current system

Find the system you're on

If you're on Red Box Quantify

Red Box has long been the standard in UK financial services, emergency services and contact centres. It has been moving customers away from its older Quantify suite towards newer cloud platforms, and support for older Quantify deployments is ending or moving to more expensive sustaining-only tiers.

If you're on an older Storacall system

Older Storacall systems were built around ISDN and traditional phone system lines. As the servers they run on stop getting operating system and security updates, they're reaching the end of their working life, and Storacall has been moving customers to IP and SIP recording (recording calls made over the internet).

If you're on NICE or Verint

Older on-premises deployments of NICE Perform, NICE Engage and Verint Workforce Optimization are on phased end-of-support timelines. Both vendors are moving customers towards their cloud platforms, NICE CXone and Verint Open CCaaS.

Our Private 3CX AI Server

What moving to a vendor's cloud means for your recordings

The usual upgrade path is the vendor's own cloud, which means your recordings move to their systems. And if you add AI transcription from a cloud provider, including tools built on OpenAI, call audio goes to a third-party AI service to be processed.

Our Private 3CX AI Server does it differently. Recording is built into 3CX, the phone system software we look after for you, so there's no separate recording box to maintain. Calls are recorded and transcribed privately and no customer data goes to a third-party AI service. More on that on our Private 3CX AI Server transcription page.

You set which calls are recorded, who can listen back and how long recordings are kept.

Existing recordings

What happens to the recordings you already have

This is usually the first question. Once you've moved, your recordings are always stored on the 3CX system, so they're in one place and easy to find. For the recordings on your old system, some let you export them in a standard format, and some make it harder. We'll look at what you have and tell you your options before you commit to anything.

Our advice

Why we recommend moving now, not later

Even if your recording system seems to be working, waiting usually makes the move harder. Support is already winding down on older systems, and the phone network they rely on is being switched off. The longer you leave it, the less time you have to plan, and the more you have riding on a box nobody is updating.

Moving now means you choose the timing. We can plan the switch around your business, test it properly and keep recording running throughout, rather than rushing it after something fails.

The risks of waiting

Fewer security and software updates as end of support gets closer

Recording kit wired into ISDN stops working when those lines are switched off

A failure with no support could leave you unable to record calls you have to keep

A rushed move later leaves less time to plan, test and train your team

Your calls go to a third-party AI service if you add cloud transcription to an old setup

FAQs

Questions about replacing your recording system

Will recording stop while you move us?

We plan the move around your business so recording is running from the moment calls move to 3CX.

Do we keep our phone numbers?

Yes. We move your existing numbers across (number porting), so customers keep calling the numbers they know.

What about our old recordings?

Once you've moved, recordings are stored on the 3CX system for 30 days free, then deleted automatically. If you need to keep them longer, extra storage is £8 a month for each additional 100GB. For recordings on your old system, we'll look at what you have and tell you your options before you commit to anything.

Do we need a separate recording system after the move?

No. Recording is built into 3CX, the phone system software we look after for you.

Should we wait until our current system stops working?

We wouldn't recommend it. Support for older recording systems is already winding down and the phone network they rely on is being switched off. Moving now lets you choose the timing and plan it properly, rather than rushing after something fails.
