New interoperability model: 3CX Tested, VoIP Provider Tested and Community.
V20 Update 10 gives more choice and freedom when selecting SIP Trunk Providers. Instead of a provider depending on direct 3CX testing before becoming available, providers can now complete the required 3CX interoperability testing themselves and submit their results for review, and community-submitted templates can also be made available directly in the product.
The result is a more flexible model that can bring a wider range of compatible SIP trunk options to 3CX users faster, while still making clear who tested each provider and where configuration support comes from.
Three provider categories
Providers and templates are now placed into three clear categories:
- 3CX Tested: providers tested directly by 3CX, with a 3CX configuration guide, listed both in the 3CX Phone System and on the 3CX website.
- VoIP Provider Tested: providers that complete the required interoperability testing and submit their results for review; once approved, the provider is responsible for ongoing support and configuration.
- Community: templates submitted or requested by 3CX Partners, end users or Community members, available within the 3CX Phone System but not in the main directories on the 3CX website.
3CX SMB systems continue to work only with approved 3CX Tested templates, and a Community entry can move to VoIP Provider Tested once the provider completes the required interoperability process.
Test a provider directly from 3CX
Admins can also test a SIP trunk provider themselves from within the 3CX interface using the 3CX VoIP Provider Checker, which guides them through inbound and outbound call tests and shows results as soon as the test is complete, including trunk, inbound, outbound and overall status, flagging warnings or errors that can be corrected and retested.
A faster approval route for providers
Previously, approving a new SIP Trunk Provider required involvement from both the provider and 3CX. With VoIP Provider Tested, providers can complete the required interoperability tests themselves using the 3CX testing process, creating a more scalable route to demonstrate compatibility without every trunk needing direct 3CX testing, which for customers can mean more provider options, including regional providers.
The new categories are visible in the 3CX Phone System from V20 Update 10, with the SIP Trunk Provider listings and related pages across the 3CX website being updated to match the same terminology.
